Film camera: Canon EOS 500N

I’ve recently purchased a Canon EOS 500N, an old film camera from the 90′ along with two lenses 28-80mm F3.5-5.6 and a 80-200mm F4.5-5.6.

The first attempt using an 10+ year expired Kodak Gold 400 roll failed for multiple reasons: amateur photograph and old film.

Mimosas next to the lab (bad exposure)
Seagulls of Nice (very bad exposure)
Quartier du port of Nice (better exposure..but not great)

Maybe the camera had an issue…lets test it using a brand new Ilford HP5 400 B&W film:

Areca palm plant in my office
A cute kitty
The lab coffee machine

The result is much better, after more testing and more importantly photo training the results can get amazing ! The exposure has to be tweaked and I have to use better light.

Conclusion: A film camera has nothing to do with a smartphone camera. Even with my first two rolls I can say that I’m astonished with the result. The quality and contrast of the pictures amazing for an entry-level camera. I had the luck to find a cheap deal, but I’m sure if you’d like to try it out its a perfect start.
Next…use new color film and follow an introduction to photography !
